Lada's left hand never stopped, not even the year his wife was dying.
Out, in, out. You can hold a chord down on a piano and go and make tea.
On this thing a held note is something you are doing the whole time,
and when you stop doing it you do not get a quiet note. You get no note.

What Your House Sounds Like
by

October 27, 2026
Mrs. Koubková set the same assignment every September for thirty-one years:
write down what your house sounds like. Not looks. Sounds. One page.
Then she kept them, all of them, in shoeboxes along the wardrobe floor,
not just the good ones, every one, the kettle pages and the nothing pages,
memory
listening
records
teachers
cells
