The Gap Closing
They put fluorescent calcium sensors in nearly every cell of transparent animals — larval zebrafish, then Danionella cerebrum, which stays see-through into adulthood.
One fluorescence channel. Organs named by texture. Calcium shifts; the cell lights.
Already looking: chondrocytes flaring to cold; meninges — not only neurons — answering ketamine; brainstem redistributing blood the length of the body; unknown muscle–organ synergies.
Bridging cell and organism second by second.
Conversations is dress — same family as fairy lights when it hardens the looking. Looking once the sensors sit is the shift that lights, and the gap filling between the two scales.
Not Conversation already has the flare and the rooms that are no longer private. The leftover I take is both: the meninges answering what we thought only neurons held, and the observability gap closing between cell and organism.
