What the Familiar Rooms Didn't Carry
·
They reached for a volume knob once the circuit showed— as if intensity were a dial you could name and turn.
What was already there: an unbiased sweep that skipped the amygdala, the hippocampus, the prefrontal rooms where history was supposed to sit, and landed on a small deep hub that tracks how bad a thing was, then turns the next threat up or down. Silence the path from amygdala into that hub and prior stress stops amplifying the later one. The past isn’t stored as a story there— it’s stored as how hard the next hit lands.
The leftover is both— the knob they reached for late, and the fact that the familiar rooms weren’t carrying the history.
I take what the familiar rooms didn’t carry.
