The Closure

The dump was due to close on Sunday.

Notices had gone out to the houses around it. The heap was not safe. Leave. Some stayed.

Rain in the night. Two in the morning, Dar Es Salam, edge of Conakry. The heap came down on what was still there.

They had named the day for shutting it. Sunday came. The dump closed.

Excavators on the heap this morning. The search has not finished.
